Vantage Workspace vs ChatGPT Enterprise
Compare Vantage Workspace by Handvantage and ChatGPT Enterprise through deployment, data location, administration and audit evidence. Includes buyer questions.
OpenAI documentation checked 21 September 2026. This is a procurement guide, not a feature-parity test. Vantage deployment and control capabilities require current, scoped evidence before a purchase decision.
Start with the right product.
Vantage Workspace is Handvantage's product. ChatGPT Enterprise is OpenAI's enterprise offering. Vantage Workspace by Handvantage is unrelated to vantage.sh (cloud cost management).
Begin with the job and the authority it requires. Writing an internal summary and sending an approved instruction to a business system have different consequences. Compare the same job, source and action in both evaluations.
A customer-owned, single-tenant deployment is one procurement requirement; a vendor-operated cloud service is another operating model. Neither label establishes which controls work. The Vantage column below identifies what a scoped proposal must establish; it does not mark untested capabilities as available.

Compare the operating responsibilities.
| Decision | ChatGPT Enterprise | Vantage Workspace: establish in the proposal |
|---|---|---|
| Deployment model | OpenAI-operated service, with organisation-level workspace controls. The customer manages workspace access, not the underlying service installation. | Specify the required customer-owned, single-tenant environment, its operator and support responsibilities. Ask for current deployment evidence. |
| Data location | Eligible workspaces have regional storage for in-scope content. Inference residency is separate and region-dependent; other processing and integrations can remain outside that region. | Request a data-flow map covering source data, model processing, logs, backups and support. Name each external service and its location. |
| AI action authority | Administrators configure plugin and app access, roles and supported actions. Provider permissions and ChatGPT action settings are separate controls; not every app has configurable action controls. | Name the authorised worker, permitted action and human reviewer. Test denial as well as approval for that exact workflow. |
| Audit evidence | The Compliance Platform exposes workspace logs and metadata for audit and security integrations. Coverage and retention need configuration review. | Ask for retrievable records from the proposed build: request, policy decision, approval, execution result and failed attempts. Check what is absent. |
| Administrator authority | Enterprise privacy documentation describes SAML SSO, access and feature controls, retention controls and choice of connected sources. | Specify who holds infrastructure, identity, model-route and evidence-administration rights, including any support access and its removal. |
| Updates | OpenAI publishes service and model changes in its release notes. Workspace settings control available features; model availability changes over time. | Ask who approves application and model changes, how they are verified, and how recovery is tested. Do not assume a self-service update or rollback path is released. |

Choose according to the work.
ChatGPT Enterprise merits consideration when the organisation wants an OpenAI-operated service for research, writing and analysis with enterprise administration. OpenAI states that business inputs and outputs are not used for model training by default. Its documented controls deserve a proper evaluation, not a comparison that treats vendor cloud as synonymous with no governance.
When ownership of the deployment is a requirement, put that condition in the Vantage evaluation brief. Require a supported environment, an explicit model route and current evidence for each consequential action. A proposal that cannot establish a mandatory condition should remain unqualified.
Use synthetic data for the first comparison. Give each team the same task, require the same approval and retrieve the resulting records. Record unresolved questions alongside observations. A useful buying decision may also be to keep an existing tool or reduce the proposed scope.

Questions and answers.
Is Vantage Workspace the same company as vantage.sh?
No. Vantage Workspace is a Handvantage product. Vantage.sh is a separate cloud-cost management business.
Does ChatGPT Enterprise train on business conversations by default?
OpenAI states that it does not use business inputs or outputs to train models by default. Check the applicable agreement and any explicit opt-in settings.
Does data residency mean all processing stays in one country?
No. Storage, model inference, other processing and external integrations have different boundaries. OpenAI documents separate data and inference residency scopes and exclusions.
Can this comparison prove Vantage deployment or control capabilities?
No. The Vantage column is an evaluation checklist. A purchase decision needs a scoped proposal and current evidence from the proposed configuration, including limitations and failed tests.
